Ethnic Studies
Why ethnic studies is important today

Ethnic studies is critical because it provides a multidisciplinary lens through which new approaches to learning will emerge. It produces culturally competent, global citizens; provides graduates and scholars a professional, competitive advantage in the workforce; and represents diverse perspectives of reality in a globalized world.

Ethnic studies is the interdisciplinary study of race and ethnicity, as understood through the perspectives of major underrepresented racial groups in the United States. Students will draw upon many disciplines and areas of thought to comprehend the sociocultural, intellectual, and historical experiences that inform the construction of racial, gender, and cultural identities.

This Giving Day, we invite you to elevate what’s possible for our students by supporting key funds that make a lasting difference:

Ethnic Studies Directors Fund

The Director's Fund in the Ethnic Studies program is essential to supporting the important unit, college, university, and community work of this unit.  At the Director's discretion, funds have been used to assist in bringing nationally recognized speakers to the campus, aiding the success of Hip-Hop Week activities, and supporting faculty development opportunities.

Your generosity fuels innovation, access, and excellence at NAU. Every gift—no matter the size—helps create life-changing experiences for our students. Thank you for believing in the power of Lumberjack giving.
