Who We Are
The Shand Garden Stewardship Team is a dynamic collective of NAU Students, Faculty and Staff from the Botany Club, the newly forming Shand Garden Club, the College of Environment, Forestry and Natural Sciences (CEFNS), the School of Hotel & Restaurant Management (HRM), and friends from all across campus.
The Shand Garden, named for late NAU biology Professor Richard Shand, is a teaching and research-focused garden located on the southside of the Biological Sciences building. CEFNS and HRM entered into a formal partnership in the Fall of 2024 to collaboratively use and maintain the space. CEFNS uses the garden as a living laboratory for biological instruction while HRM uses the garden to grow produce which is harvested and used in culinary instruction and by the student-run HRM Café.
By joining the forces of science and gastronomy, we’re cultivating an appreciation for good soil and good food!
How Can You Help?
We need a new shed! Our current shed, which stores all our supplies and tools, is close to 15 years old. The foundation has cracked, and the walls and roof have begun to separate from the frame, making it unsafe to use and easily accessible to pesky critters. Having a safe and secure shed means we can effectively maintain our supplies, reducing unnecessary tool replacements, and allowing us to focus on our goal of growing an amazing garden. Please make a gift today and help us create this new space!
