Elevate Philosophy

Elevate Future Legal Professionals

In the Department of Philosophy at NAU, many of our students are aspiring lawyers, but applying for law school and studying for/taking the LSAT is quite expensive. This year on Giving Day, we're highlighting the fund below, which helps to remove student barriers:

Joan Bundy Law Pre-Law Scholarship

This scholarship, which began in the previous academic year, provides essential support to students preparing for law school and a future in the legal profession. Your donation directly empowers aspiring legal professionals, helping them pursue their academic and career goals with confidence.

Join us in honoring Joan Bundy's legacy and investing in the success of future leaders in law and justice.

How Philosophy Shapes Lumberjack Lives

Hear directly from students about the impact of their NAU Philosophy studies:

"I’ve never felt more supported than I do in NAU’s philosophy department. My professors fostered my curiosity and gave me the confidence to pursue ambitious goals, including applying to graduate school. I’ve explored a broad range of topics while building skills in problem-solving, public speaking, writing, leadership, and community building. From late-night conversations about Plato’s Republic on the beach in Greece to frantic study sessions polishing a paper on Hegel’s Aesthetics, every moment was filled with community, growth, and genuine connection. Having the chance to discuss such important issues in an encouraging environment alongside some of my closest friends has truly been a blessing." - Clarisse, '25

"As an aspiring lawyer, I wanted a degree that would prepare me for law school, and the philosophy, politics, and law major was the perfect choice for me. The courses I’ve taken have helped me think critically about how philosophy has shaped the contemporary American legal system and informed the decision-making in major Supreme Court cases. My courses in the program have also given me a strong foundation in logical reasoning and reading comprehension that were essential to my success on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). Beyond the topics themselves, my professors have been exceptional instructors and incredibly supportive as I take the next step toward my legal career. I highly recommend a major in philosophy, politics, and law for anyone who wants to pursue a career in the legal field!" - Ethan, '26
