Elevate Ethnic Studies

Elevate Interdisciplinary Study

Ethnic Studies (ES) students at NAU draw from many areas of scholarship to understand the sociocultural, intellectual, and historical experiences informing the construction of identities.

Ethnic Studies’ importance lies in its blend of an interdisciplinary lens with critical thinking grounded in a variety of perspectives to explore our everyday realities in an increasingly globalized world. This discipline encourages innovative, expansive thought to produce competent, global citizens and provide graduates and scholars with a professional, competitive advantage in the workforce.

In the next year, we will join forces with the Women’s and Gender Studies program to form the Department of Social Transformation. This department will build from our disciplines’ long-standing traditions of impactful, innovative programming that invites students from untapped communities into academic spaces while welcoming all to learn about others.

Our Giving Day Priorities

On NAU Giving Day, we invite you to elevate ES students by supporting this key fund that makes a lasting difference. Your gift helps us build cooperative, collaborative futures:

The Ethnic Studies Fund

Formerly the Ethnic Studies Director’s Fund, the Ethnic Studies Fund will assist us in bringing nationally recognized speakers to campus, supporting successful ES-specific events such as Hip-Hop Week, and continuing faculty development aimed at adapting best-practice concerning future-forward discussions with our unique student body.

Thank You for Your #AxeofKindness!

Your generosity fuels innovation and excellence in our department at NAU. Every gift—of every size—helps create life-changing experiences for our students.
