Founded in 1995, Thin Air Magazine at NAU is a student-run literary journal led by MFA students who believe deeply in the power of storytelling. Every spring, we publish a print issue featuring emerging voices from around the world, work that is bold, surprising, and deeply human.
But Thin Air is more than a magazine!
Through our online journal, weekly features, newsletters, and community workshops in Flagstaff, we create space for writers to connect, experiment, and grow. For our MFA students, this isn’t just extracurricular, it’s real-world experience in editing, publishing, marketing, and running a creative organization from the ground up.
Why We’re Asking for Your Support
This year has brought a few unexpected hurdles. Travel funding for conferences was reallocated, limiting professional development opportunities for our graduate students. At the same time, printing costs increased dramatically, with paper prices rising by 42%.
We are committed to keeping Thin Air in print. Holding a physical journal still matters. It makes literature tangible. It honors the writers we publish.
