Elevate Mountain Tremors

Finding Strength, Voice, and Joy Through Song

The Mountain Tremors Choir at NAU’s College of Health and Human Services has been transforming lives through the simple, powerful act of singing.

Founded by Dr. Fé Murray, associate clinical professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the choir began with just a handful of determined members and a vision. What started as a small grassroots effort, reaching out to local doctors and community members, has grown into a vibrant and welcoming space.

Today, the choir brings together individuals living with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions, along with caregivers, students, and families. Together, they create more than music, they build connection, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

More Than Music

The impact of the Mountain Tremors Choir goes far beyond singing. For participants, it provides meaningful physical, emotional, and social benefits:

  • Strengthening voices and improving breath control
  • Supporting communication and addressing physical challenges
  • Creating a safe, supportive, and judgment-free environment
  • Building friendships, confidence, and joy through shared experiences

In this space, members who may have once felt hesitant begin to sing freely, laugh together, and reconnect with a sense of identity. What starts as a weekly activity often becomes something much deeper, a true source of connection and support.

At the same time, the choir offers invaluable hands-on learning opportunities for students pursuing degrees in speech-language pathology. By working directly with choir members, students gain real-world experience that helps shape them into compassionate and skilled clinicians.

Why Your Support Matters

As the Mountain Tremors Choir celebrates its 10th anniversary, it stands as a powerful example of what community and music can do together.

Continued support helps us:

  • Expand the program and reach more individuals in need
  • Provide resources that support participants and their families
  • Sustain a space where health, connection, and creativity come together

Your contribution helps ensure that this program continues to grow and make an impact for years to come.
