College of Arts & Letters

Where passions become professions

The College of Art and Letters encompasses the humanities, creative arts, and language studies, but we represent much more than a collection of academic departments. Our students become teachers and interior designers, historians and philosophers, lawyers and professional writers, and imaginative leaders across career paths.

We help students build an understanding of the world around them and express their knowledge and creativity. We guide them on the path to finding their voice and vision while honing analytic, artistic, and linguistic abilities—all while growing into a talented professional with the skills to succeed in a wide range of modern careers.

NAU Giving Day is a great opportunity to support the arts and humanities at NAU. Here are some funds that are helping to advance creativity and scholarly endeavors across CAL for students, faculty, and the community.

  • College of Arts and Letters Dean's Fund for Excellence - The fund provides flexible dollars that allow a variety of needs to be met each year in CAL. From hosting guest lecturers to helping students attend competitions and conferences, this fund is an essential way you can support the activities of students, faculty, and staff in CAL.

  • Finish Line Fund - The fund provides small cash donations to CAL majors who are at risk of not finishing their degree due to a lack of educational materials, being a few hundred dollars short on tuition, or an unexpected expense.

NAU Honors Distinguished Speaker Series - Frances Haugen
Advocating Accountability and Ethics for Big Tech: An Evening with Facebook Whistleblower Frances Haugen The NAU Honors Distinguished Speaker Series showcases inspired thinkers from all disciplines addressing issues of vital community interest. The presentations will engage and enlighten students and community members about critical issues facing the region, the nation, and the world. During her time at Facebook as the lead Product Manager on the Civic Misinformation team, Frances became increasingly alarmed by the choices the company makes prioritizing their own profits over public safety and putting people's lives at risk. As a last resort and at great personal risk, Frances made the courageous decision to blow the whistle on Facebook. Reserve tickets - https://nautickets.universitytickets.com/w/event.aspx?id=1739
